Editing is very important within a music video as it creates interesting visuals for the audience so thats its exciting and editing techniques makes the narrative or concept of a music video easier to understand. Without different editing styles the music video will be less entertaining for the audiences meaning that the music video will be less successful. Editing styles such as timing of shots help the music videos allow it to flow therefore the audience can understand the narrative easily. Tints and effects are useful also as the audience can understand how the artists are feeling meaning that they will understand the narrative better. Therefore editing styles are important as they make a music video flow better, enhance the audience with interesting visuals and builds relationships between the audience and the artist.
We are planning to use a variety of planning styles within our music video. We are going to incorporate a time lapse, slow editing and black and white filters when editing.
The first editing style we are going to incorporate into our music video is a time lapse. We are going to film a time lapse when we are in the London location as it will be most successful here due to how busy London is. We are incorporating a time lapse to emphasise the fact that our artist is lonely due to the many people walking quickly around him, this will suggest to the audience that he has lost his way of life as he is standing still whilst others are walking quickly. Furthermore it will help the audience to understand he has runaway and doesn't know what to do therefore they will get a better understanding of the narrative. This will also build a relationship between the artist and the audiences as they will sympathize for him. The time laspe is conventional to to the indie genre as it builds a good relationship between the audience and artist and will make the narrative mroe easier to understansd. The editing style represetns my artists as vulnerable and weak due to the pace of life moving around him which is quick.
The secound editing style we are going to incorporate is slow paced editing. We are going to incorporate slow paced editing through out the music video but mainly within the house setting. We are incorporating slow paced editing in the house setting so that the audience get a clear view that Nico and his father are arguing and are bad terms. By using slow paced editing here the audience will understand why Ed is running away meaning that they will engage more into the music video. The audience will also symphathise for Nico as the slow paced editing will give a clear view of how the bad the house is. We are also going to use slow paced editing when Nico performs part of the song to show his talent in performing which will draw in audiences. Slow paced editing is conventional to the indie genre as it makes visuals within the music video look more realistic. Slow paced editing will also make our artist look vulneralbe as the audience will clearly see the house and the argument between him and his father which will create a tense atmosphere.
The third editing style we are going to incorporate is black and white filters. This is a typical editing style within indie music videos as it shows the audience how the artists within video are feeling at that time. We are going to incorporate a black and white filer in many parts of the music video such as on the train. We are incorporating black and white filters here as the typical lighting on the train is high key which is unconventioal so we are going to add black and white filters to make it more conventional. Furthermore it will also show how he is feeling which is upsept and gloomy as the black and white connoates to depressing emotions. The black and white filters will make the narrative more easier to understand as it will clearly show how Nico's feeling which will build a relationship. The black and white filters is conventional to the indie genre as it shows the artists feelings clearly. The black and white filters will represent my artist as depressed which will help the audience to understand the narrative and how he is feeling.
The target audience will be able to build a reltionship through the editing styles I have selected as they will understand the narrative better as the editing styles emphasise how the artist is feeling. The slow paced editing will clearly show the audience how Ed has been treated in his home which will build a relationship. The time lapse will show the audience that his pace of life has become slow since he has run away which will createe empathy for him but also make the audience interested in the music video as they would want to know what happends to the artist. Lastly the black and white filters will clearly represent how the artist is feeling which is depressed therefore they can relate to him.

You have also visualised your music video well. However, aim to relate back to the lyrics of your song, to demonstrate further planning as to where you want your effects to take place.
