Initial group planning ideas- Miss Georgiou

My group members are Amber, Blessing and Domenico. We came together as we thought we could work well. In our first meeting we discussed many things. We discussed what genre of music we should chose to base our music video on, we discussed as a group on what genre to chose. We looked at many things when looking at genres. We looked at what genre would be easiest to create, we looked at dance, pop and indie. We discussed  how we would create the music video, what conventions would we need within the video to be conventional to the genre and what micro elements we should include. We looked at the dance genre and the artist Disclosure 'When a fire starts to burn' We believe if we chose this song to create our music video to it would be the most creative however we would need many dancers and as a group we believe that we couldn't get that many people within our music video therefore narrowed down our music genre choices to pop or indie. From looking at this we chose to either create a music video in the pop genre or the indie genre, we was stuck between the two.

We started looking at different artists and their music videos to give us inspiration. We looked at Justin Timberlake and Pink as the two pop artists. We watched some of their videos such as 'Mirrors' and 'Just like a pill' we also annotated the lyrics to these songs to see if we could come up with any new ideas to create our own music videos to these songs. We thought about the conventions and micro elements we needed to have within the song and we thought that it would be too difficult to create a music video to a pop song as we believe we would either just copy the music video or it would be just to hard to make the video conventional.

After deciding we didn't want to create a pop music video we discussed further as a group in creating a music video in the indie genre. We looked at many different indie videos including Ed Sheerans videos to give us inspiration and ideas of what we could do when creating an indie music video. We decided that this would be our best option as we could make the video conventional.
We wrote done our initial ideas onto a piece of paper and discussed individuals ideas. This included many different ideas from each individual.

Our ideas consisted of different artists and genres.

We annotated song lyrics of each song we were thinking of doing which were: Pink - Just like a pill

Justin Timberlake -Mirrors
Disclosure- When a fire starts to burn
Ed Sheeran- Give me love
By doing this showed us what shots we would need to incorporate into our video and what would be featured within our music video.

After looking at these songs as a group we decided we didn't want to use any of these songs but wanted to create a music video on one of Ed Sheerans song.We researched into him and found a song we all thought was pretty good which was Runaway. We then analysed the lyrics. We found that its of the indie genre and has a narrative behind the song which we were happy with.

After that we discussed as a group on what we should include within our video to gather many different opinions and ideas. We wrote our ideas down on a piece of paper which included the mise en scene, artist representation, cinematography, editing and style of music video.

In the next meeting we applied for copyright, we had to apply for copyright to gain permission from Ed Sheerans record label to use his song for our music video. We discussed as a group what should be sent in the email and sent it of to his record label individually. We got no response and we realised they are very busy so that they may not ever reply therefore we carried on with planning our music video.

We discussed as a group about the outline of our music video, from analysing the lyrics we decided that our music video should be narrative based as its conventional to the indie genre. We thought about many different shots to use and what artists we should have in our music video. We decided that we need a girl within our music video due to the story behind our music video. We discussed about many different shots which will incorporate which were a variety.

After we discussed the outline of the music video we discussed ideas for our storyboards. We first created individual storyboards so that we can gather many different ideas individually and then put them together. We created our own storyboards then came together to discuss them individually then we combined ideas to create our group storyboard. We thought this was effective as we came up with many different ideas and successful shots.

Group Meetings
Group meetings and discussions are important to carry out so that we all understand what we have to do and when to do it. By having group meetings means that we all understand what we have to do. It was very important that we discussed the lyrics and planned our music video together so that we saved time.

I believe my group worked well together throughout the whole production of our music video. We incorporated many ideas as individuals into our music video but also as a group. We listened to each others ideas well and tried to get everyones ideas into the music video. I believe that because we worked well together we created a successful music video. Through having group meetings we could see each individuals strength therefore each individual had a role in which they were good at to create a successful music video.

  1. This post demonstrates proficient evidence of group planning. It is clear to see that you and your group have considered some inspiration for your music video and some of the planning that you have taken. However, you need to elaborate on the meetings that you have untaken in a lot more detail, by considering your planning sheets further.

  2. The group meeting table that you have included above helps to demonstrate further evidence of you and your group working well together.
