Photoshoot- Miss Miller

It is important to conduct a photo shoot with our artist so that we can create our digipak and magazine advert with relevant and successful images to indicate what genre of music the artist sings and there personality. The photos that we take are going to be used for our digipak and magazine advert. By conducting a photoshoot allows us to plan and take relevant shots of our artist for our digipak and magazine advert which will accurately present them. Its very important we take successful and conventional shots to attract our target audience and potential fans to purchase the items and the alubm. If we capture unsuccessful images it means that our digipak and magazine advert will be unsuccessful and wont catch our audiences attention. Therefore conducting a photoshoot where we are taking image to include onto the advert and digipak is important to promote the artist and their music but also to attract audiences. It is important to take many different images when conducting our photoshoot so that we have a variety of image to chose from when creating our digipak and magazine advert. Its important to take a variety of images also so that when we come to plan we can see what works well and what doesn't.

We took this particular image of the artist which is a close up to be used on our digipak. We chose to take this photo here as the background location promotes to the audience where the music video is set therefore showing its a realistic location which will interest audiences. We chose to take a close up of our artist as the photo will be used on the album cover so that the audience understand straight away who's album is being promoted. We decided to take a close up as we believed that it will build a strong relationship with the audience as the eye contact is direct which will draw audiences in and make them feel special as it looks like the artist is just looking at them. I believe that the image is conventional to the indie genre as by the artist looking directly at the camera and not giving of an expression shows that he's not self centred and not constructed as a star therefore indicating that he's a typical boy which will be more relatable to the audience which will build a strong relationship. I also believe its conventional to the indie genre as in the image the audience can see the scruffy hair and simple basic clothing which is typical for an aritst to have in the indie genre. His appearance in the image is very conventional which will draw in our target audience and they will be able to relate to him therefore building a strong relationship and more likely to buy the album. I belive this image is successful due to his laid back face which shows he's not self centered which promotes the artist as a good person but also shows that the image is conventional to the indie genre. I also believe this image is successful due to the background scenery. In the background the audience can see lit up buildings and the London Eye which indicates that the music video will be set in London therefore it may persuade audiences to buy the album. It also makes the photo look professional and more interesting which will draw audiences in. Furthermore the background also may indicate what genre of music he sings (promoting the artist) as London is a realistic location which is conventional to the indie genre. Overall I believe the audience will be able to build a relationship with the arist from this photo as its a close up therefore you can clearly see his facial expression and direct eye contact. Also the appearance is simple and plain therefore the audience will be able to relate to him which builds a relationship.

We took this image as we believed that the location and the setting was very edgy and indie like therefore our photo will be successful. We also took this photo as the background is very interesting which will draw audiences attention to our album. Furthermore we took this photo as it promotes our artist as very edgy and unique meaning that the our target audience will be able to relate to him easily. We took a mid shot so that it shows to the audience his appearance but also the background. We intend to use the image on the magazine advert as we believed it will be most successful here as we could fit information around him but not block the artist. We also decided to use it on our magazine advert as we believed that the location would interest many different audiences therefore they will read the advert and but the album also. Its conventional to the indie genre as the audience can clearly see the artists appearance which is scruffy hair, simple clothing and holding a guitar. By holding the guitar promotes the artist as a strong indie artist therefore the audience are more likely to take interest in the advert. The simple clothing and scruffy hair relates to the audience therefore it will build a strong relationship between the two. The background is conventional to the indie genre as the different images are edgy and different which will interest our audience. Due to it being in black and white the image will stand out on our magazine advert and interest our audiences as the colour black makes it look more realistic which makes it conventional to the indie genre therefore they will be more interested in the magazine advert. I really like this image as the setting is different and unique which promotes the artist as an indie artist but also different which also suggests he's a strong artist too. I also like this image from the way he is standing as he looks laid back which shows he's not constructed as a star which makes him relatable to the audience. Overall I really like this image due the edgy diverse background. I believe this image will help to build a relationship with the audience and the artist as the artist within this image can be related to the audience by his appearance and the way he is standing.

We took this particular photo as we believe this photo sets the setting well and gives the audience ideas about what the album is about meaning they are more likely to buy it. We've chosen to use a long shot as it shows the audience the the artist appearance and location. We will use this image on our digipak in the inside cover which will either be covered with lyrics or a personal message. We are using this image for the inside cover as there is available space to put information on the image without blocking the artist. I believe this image is conventional to the indie genre as the audience can clearly see the artist appearance which is simple casual clothing which is conventional. The audience will also be able to relate to him easily due to his typical indie clothing which makes him look like a normal boy. Also by having his guitar in the shot clearly shows he's an indie artist so that the audience can relate to him easily and also shows he's a talented artist. The location is also conventional to the indie genre as the audience can see the image is set in London which is a simple realistic setting which is typical of the indie genre. The way he is sitting is also conventional to the indie genre as the audience can clearly see he's laid back and not constructed as a star. I think this image is good due to the background scenery as the lights on the building makes the image look interesting. I also like this image as it shows that the artist is strong due to the guitar in the image. I believe that this image will build a strong relationship between the artist and the audience as the audience will be able to relate to him due to the realistic location and his scruffy appearance.

We chose to take this photo as the audience will understand that the artist travels somewhere on one of his songs on the album which will make them interested in the album. We chose to take a high angle of him on the train as it links to the fact that he's vulnerable and alone. We intend to put this photo on our digipak for our back cover as there is room to put song titles without blocking the image of the artist. I believe this image is very conventional to the indie genre due to the fact that the image is set in a typical location which is on London tubes, this also shows the audience that the artist is a normal typical boy as he is using public transport therefore the audience will be able to relate to him which will build a relationship. The image also promotes him as a normal boy and not constructed as a star therefore the audience can relate to him easily meaning that they are more likely to buy the album. The image is also conventional to the indie genre due to the realistic simple location which will catch audiences attention. By the way he is sitting shows he's laid back which shows that he's not self centered which gives off a good reputation of him. The simple clothing also relates to the indie gnere as he is seen as plain and scruffy. I like this image as it makes the artist look mysterious due to the dark shadows in the carriage, it also gives of mystery as to where the artist is going which will interest audiences. I also like this image due to the way he is sitting which is relaxed and also artistic. The audience will be able to create a relationship with the artist from this image as the image gives of a laid back representation of him which shows he's a normal boy therefore they will be able to relate to him. The way he is on his own also will create a relationship as it will indicate to them that he is vulnerable and lonely.

I believe our photoshoot went extremely well. We took many different photos in different angles and places which were all conventional to the indie genre which is why it went so well. What went very well was finding unique locations and typical indie places to shoot our photoshoot. I believe the positioning of the shots went extremely well and the mise en  scene of each photo as it promoted the artist as extremely indie. However sometimes the camera went blurry which I feel like we most struggled with as we didn't know how to solve this. Even though the camera did go blurry we still got many successful images. Overall the images represent our artist as truly indie due to the laid back appearance and look in all of the image. Also the setting promotes him as a typical boy therefore the audience can relate to him easily. Within our group we will all create our own digipak and magazine advert to formulate many ideas for our group digipak and magazine advert. We will create our own then come together as a group and see what was successful and what was not then create a group digipak and magazine advert with the many different ideas we have.

Filming Schedule- Miss Georgiou

Creating a film schedule before we filmed our music video was very important as it helped us film our music video smoothly without any disruptions. If we did not create a film schedule before we filmed we wouldn't understand where we would of had to be and what times we were filming. Therefore creating a film schedule was essential as it allowed our group to make decisions on what times to film which were best for everyone. Also the film schedule includes on what we had to film each day therefore it helped us when we came to filming as we had a clear understanding of what we had to do that particular day. Furthermore by creating a film schedule our group were organised and there was less disruptions as we had a clear view of what we were filming. Therefore our shots were more high quality and smoother.

We followed our film schedule and filmed on the days and times on our film schedule as a group. However we filmed more shots at the locations which we didn't have on the film schedule. We done this as we believed we needed more of a variety of shots then we did on the filming schedule. Other than that we conformed to our filming schedule which made filming very smooth and successful. Without a filming schedule we wouldn't of been as organised meaning that our shots would be less successful.

Risk Assessment- Miss Georgiou

Before filming it is important to consider risks which can prevent us from filming smoothly and successfully. By considering risks it will reduce the chance of something going wrong when filming. It will also lower the chances of harming the public which includes passers by and ourselves. By considering the risks we were able to discuss as a group how we can prevent any hazards when filming. By doing this will make filming time longer and more chance to focus on our filming rather then hazards which may occur. Furthermore by considering risks is important before we film so that we make sure that we understand what precautions to take when filming so that we don't harm ourselves and the public.

The risk assessment will assist us with filming as we have a great understanding of different risks that can occur during the filming process. As a result of knowing what risks can occur it will allow us to prevent risks from occurring when the filming takes place. Therefore due to our risk assessment our filming would not be affected as we would not have to spend any time making sure the environment is safe. Furthermore by knowing about the risks its less chance of our footage being unsuccessful as risks can make our footage poor quality.

When we were filming our music video we encountered a few more risks. When we were filming in London a risk we came across due to it being so busy were people knocking over our tri pod and camera as they rushed past. We overcame this by filming in more of a quieter location where there was less people. Another risk we encountered when we filmed our music video was filming in the dark in isolated places in London as we couldn't see our whereabouts and therefore got lost. However we came over this by walking around for a long time and the next day we filmed we made sure we took a torch so that we knew where we was.

By making a risk assessment assisted us in filming smoothly and quickly as we knew what we had to do to prevent to risks meaning that our filming was successful.

Planning storyboards- Miss Georgiou

The main purpose of a storyboard is to plan a music video in depth as it allows people to plan the music video shot by shot therefore you have a good idea of what you are doing when you come to film. Storyboards contain what each shot will contain, the length of each shot, lighting, iconography, location, effects, narrative description and sound. Therefore each shot is thorough and detailed so when it comes to filming it will run smoothly and easily. By producing a storyboard filming will be much more easier as the group understands what different shots we are producing. Furthermore each individual in the group has a clear understanding of how to film the music video. Therefore by producing storyboards it will make producing the music video easier as we have a clear understanding of whats going on in each shot but also the music video is more likely to be successful as we have planned in depth.

As a group we carried out research about indie music videos so we understood what interests audiences about indie music and what they thought makes an indie music video successful. We carried out primary research which was asking 5 individuals between 10-30 in open questions on indie music videos in an interview style to gain opinion based answers. By doing an interview allowed us to have a greater insight in what interests them about indie music videos as we are actually taking part in research. The questions were open so it gave unbiased results and more accurate results which we used when we planned our storyboard. Secondary research we carried out to assist with our storyboards were handing out 40 people aged 10-30 questionnaires on indie music which allowed us to understand what conventions we needed to have within our music video to be successful and what interests them about an indie music video. We asked 40 people as this gathered unbiased results and gave us a deep knowledge about how we should plan our music video. Once we collected our results we discussed the results as a group. The main elements we found popular from our questionnaire were a narrative based music video and a simple setting. From the data we gained it helped us extremely when we came to create our storyboards as we had a clear understand what conventions and features we had to include in our music video for it to be successful.

Before creating our storyboard we discussed different ideas and opinions on how we should create our storyboard so that we all had a clear understand of what we was doing when creating our storyboards. Before we decided to split our storyboards up equally we discussed many ideas so that we all had a clear understand. As a group we decided to share the responsibility so that everyone was involved, by sharing as group made our storyboards more successful as they were created quickly and more smoothly. Furthermore each individual was allowed to put their opinion into the storyboard making it fair.

Planning magazine advert- Miss Miller

Magazines advert are extremely important as they are a huge marketing tool. They promote artists album extremely well and help the artist gain a wider fan base as many different types of people read magazines. They also promote the artist as magazine adverts tend to show the artists as strong powerful artists. Magazine adverts also promote what type of genre artists sing therefore catching audiences attention. I will be creating a magazine advert for my artist. Planning is essential when creating a magazine advert as you get an idea of what is successful and what is not. Further more its also easier when you come to create the final advert. Also it allows you to add in successful conventions.

On my magazine advert I have used earthy colours such as brown, green and blue as the magazine image is set in a forest. The colours that I have used are simplistic yet effective as they are conventional to the indie genre. The colours will appeal to our target audience and draw their attention to the magazine. The earthy colours connote to our artists personality which suggests his interested in nature but also a simple person which is relatable to our target audience. Furthermore I have used these colours as they work well together and make the advert visually appealing therefore audiences are likely to buy the album. I have decided to set the magazine advert in a forest as this is a very conventional location to the indie genre which will build a relationship straight away. The image will also indicate what genre of music my artist sings therefore the magazine advert will be very appealing to our target audience. I've decided to use the location of a forest as it clearly shows what genre of music my magazine advert is promoting but also promotes the artist as unique and diverse as he is in a forest alone. It may also promote him as vulnerable and lonely which links back to our song 'runaway' therefore the audience will want to understand more about the magazine advert.
The image of the artist is defiantly conventional to the indie genre as he is portrayed as scruffy due to his clothing and hair. I've chosen to make him scruffy so that the audience can relate to him easily and understand what genre of music is being promoted. Ive also chosen for the artist to hold an acoustic guitar which shows to the audience his musical talent which promotes him as a strong indie artist.

Ive chosen to make the layout of the magazine advert typical to other adverts. I've chosen to make the image the main feature on the page as this will draw in audiences as it will look visually appealing. Ive decided to put Ed Sheerans name and album title in bold at the top so that the audiences defiantly know who the magazine advert is about and what album is being promoted. I've chosen to make Ed Sheeran in the middle of the image so that the audience is drawn to him and can see his full identity.  By making the layout simple will attract audiences as they will clearly know its a magazine advert.

The font I've decided to use is bold capital letters. This is so the audience can easily read the information and know what artist is being promoted. By using bold capital simple font is also conventional to the indie genre as its very simplistic. The boldness of the font connotes to how strong our artist is and makes the artist looks successful as his name is bold. Ive made the writing all in dark navy blue so it contrasts from the image so it can be easily seen and read. The type of language is very simple so that all audiences can understand the advert. By using bold language the audience can see hes a strong artist.

My artist is represented as scruffy and friendly due to his facial expression on his face therefore making him look happy which will appeal to audiences and give off a good reputation of himself. I've decided to use a long shot of the artist so audiences can see his clothing clearly which also shows what type of artist and person he is which is easily relateable to the audience. He's also represented as a successful artist due to the acoustic guitar in his hand but also very strong due to the bold font of the information on the advert. The artist is represented as an indie artist as I believe my advert is very conventional to the indie genre due to the colours, font and image being used.

I will not include a personal message within my magazine advert as I want the artist to come across as a mystery. I also don't want to include a personal message within the magazine advet as I am going to include a personal message in the digipak instead.

Having a clear plan will help me in the later stage of creating my final advert. It also allows me to know what photos I need to take so that I can use photoshop. It will also be easier to create my final advert as I have a clear idea of what I am doing and what photos to take.

Planning Digipak - Miss Miller

Digipaks are important as they are a marketing tool and promote an artists album well. Digpaks promote the artists album better than a jewel CD case as its more personal due to the high quality images on it and messages therefore audiences are more likely to buy an album if the packaging is a digipak. Digipaks build better relationships between the audience and the artists due to the messages on the digipak and the different images. Digipaks are also more visually appealing which draws audiences in. They are effective as they give off more information than a jewel CD case therefore the audience can understand the artist better which builds a relationship. They are also effective as the audience can understand the artist straight away and know what genre of music they sing.

On the front cover of my digipak I have chosen to use an image which is conventional to the indie genre. The image is of Ed walking into the sunset with his back turned on the front cover so that the audience don't see his full identity. I have done this so that is creates a sense of mystery and the audience would want to find out more about him. The location of the image is also conventional to the indie genre as the image is set in a field in sunset. Its conventional as the image is realistic and simple. The image is small of Ed, I've done this so that the audience understand that he is not constructed as a star as it shows he's not self centred  and is a typical boy which the audience will be able to relate to. Iv'e chosen for the image of Ed to be holding a guitar on the front cover which clearly shows the album is in the indie genre and it also shows his musical talent. When I come to create the digipak the artist will be wearing typical indie clothing such as ragged edgy clothing and a hat also. This is so the audience will understand that the artist is of the indie genre. The colours I have chosen on the front are unconventional to the indie genre as they are bright colours such as green, yellow and blue however I have chosen these colours as they are visually appealing and will draw audiences in. It also shows the audience that the songs on the album are happy songs which will also draw them in. On the front cover I have chosen to put Ed Sheeran's name at the top of the digipak as it clearly shows the audience who the artist is which promotes him as a strong talented artist. I've chosen to put the image in the middle of the front cover so that the audience are drawn to it rather than the information, this is one benefit to a digipak as images draws audiences in. Ive also chosen to put special edition at the bottom, this makes the digipak look personal which is another difference between a jewel case and a digipak. Therefore the audience are more likely to buy the album. The font on the digipak is bold, I have chosen this as its conventional to the indie genre and is easier to read. The colour of the font is green which links with the colour scheme. I have also used a bolder font as its clear to read as our target audience is younger people. The bright colours connote to the artists personality as being happy and cheerful therefore the audience will be able to relate to this and would want to buy the album. The guitar connotes to his talent and shows the audience what type of genre he sings.

On the back cover there is no main image as I wanted to keep it simple which is conventional to the indie genre. I have chosen again to have a sunset on the back cover which links in with the colour scheme and the theme of him walking into the sunset. I have only chosen to use the sun as an image so it doesn't prevent the audience from reading the lyrics and understand what songs are on the album. The sun image connotes to the fact that he has found his light as an artist therefore suggesting that his album is successful. I have chosen again the same colour scheme as the front cover so that its the same colours used around all of the digipak which makes it visually appealing. This is another benefit to the digipak compated to the jewel CD case as the jewel CD case is quite plain compared to a digipak. The layout of the digipak is quite simple which is conventional to the indie genre. I have chosen to make the layout of the digipak simple on the back cover so that the songs on the album are easier to read. I have made it simple as my target audience is young 13-17 year old's therefore it will look visually better but also simpler to read. I have made the song names in a column as this is the typical way for back covers to look like and also spreads them out so the information is not too close together which would be harder for the audience to understand. The colours of the Song titles are all green which again links in with the colour scheme. It makes the back cover look bright and connotes to happiness. The back ground colour will be the colour of the sunset or blue which links with the colour scheme and makes it look bright also. I have done this so the digipak attracts the audience. I have chosen green as the color of the song titles so it contrasts from the blue and yellow therefore it stands out. The style of the font again is bold so that it stands out. By having bold font is conventional to the indie genre as its simple. I haven't decided to put an image of the artist on the back cover so that the song titles are easier to read but also to create a sense of mystery as the audience still don't see the artists full identity. Again the connotations of the bright colours suggest to the audience that the artist is happy which will build a relationship and make them buy his album.

On the CD I have chosen to use one image on the CD so that the CD is plain and simple which is conventional to the indie genre. The image is of a guitar and alcohol bottles. The guitar suggests to his audience his musical talent and emphasizes on what indie genre he sings. The alcohol bottles also suggest to the audience what his songs are about which will interest them when listening to the CD. They are both conventional to the indie genre. The colour that is used is blue. This links with the colour scheme around the digipak. I have chosen the colour blue as its unique and different but also connotes to happiness and what type of songs are on the album. The blue makes the disk visually appealing therefore the artist is more likely to listen to the CD and be interested in the artist. I have put Ed Sheerans name at the bottom of the CD so that it doesn't cover the image but also so the name stands out which will promote the artist as a strong powerful artist. The colour of Eds name is green which is also the same colour scheme used throughout. I have used the colour green as it also connotes to happiness. The image of the guitar and alcohol bottles are bigger than EDs name so that my artist doesn't come across as self centered. I have chosen to put the image above his name so that the audience will be interested in the meaning of the image. The font I have chosen to use is bold again which is the same font as the rest of the digipak as it stands out and is conventional to the indie genre. I have used a bold font so that his name stands out which promotes him as a strong artist.

On the inside cover i have made it personal which is another benefit to digipak compared to a jewel CD case as they do not have an inside cover. On the inside cover I am using a image which will be a close up portrait of Ed as portraits are more personal and the audience will be able to relate to him better which will build a relationship. The portrait will show his scruffy hair and a smile which will show he's a kind, caring person promoting him as a down to earth person which the audience can relate to. The portrait is also realistic which is conventional to the indie genre. The close up will emphasize his facial expression which will show he's a happy person due to his smile. The scruffy hair also relates to the indie genre as there seemed to be scruffy people which the audience will be to relate to. There will be barely any background colour due to the close up of Ed, but the background colour will be simple so that the image stands out. The font of the message to the fans will be in bold just on the side of the image, the message will stand out to the audience therefore they will take time to read it. The message will make the audiences feel special which will make them want to listen to the album and also buy other of his albums which is the main benefit of a digipak. The language i have used is simple so that it is easy to read. The only information on the CD cover is the message to fans so that the image is the main thing that stand out. On the other side of the inside cover is lyrics to 3 of his songs. This is another personal touch. It makes the audience feel again special and connected to the artist. I haven't used a image on this side of the inside cover as i want to lyrics to be easily read. The background colour is blue which links with the colour scheme and connotes to happiness which the songs are about. The font on the inside cover is bold so that it stands out and the audience can easily read it. I have set the lyrics out in columns so that its easy to read but also noticeable.

I have used the same colour scheme throughout the digipak so its visually appealing and draws peoples attention. I have also used the same font through out so it also looks appealing and so the font stands out. The representation of the artist is cheerful yet a mystery due to the small image of him on the front cover which doesn't show his true identity.  I have chosen to do this so that the audience will want to find out more about the artist. The close up portrait of him makes him relatable as he looks like a typical boy which builds a relationship with him and the audience. The bright colours make him look like a cheerful person as the green and blue connote to happiness which makes the audience want to buy the album and are able to relate to him.

Displaying IMG_5638.JPG
From planning my digipak on paper I feel more confident when I come to create it as i know understand what image I have to take and what features to add on my digipak.

Planning editing- Miss Georgiou

Editing is very important within a music video as it creates interesting visuals for the audience so thats its exciting and editing techniques makes the narrative or concept of a music video easier to understand. Without different editing styles the music video will be less entertaining for the audiences meaning that the music video will be less successful. Editing styles such as timing of shots help the music videos allow it to flow therefore the audience can understand the narrative easily. Tints and effects are useful also as the audience can understand how the artists are feeling meaning that they will understand the narrative better. Therefore editing styles are important as they make a music video flow better, enhance the audience with interesting visuals and builds relationships between the audience and the artist.

We are planning to use a variety of planning styles within our music video. We are going to incorporate a time lapse, slow editing and black and white filters when editing.
The first editing style we are going to incorporate into our music video is a time lapse. We are going to film a time lapse when we are in the London location as it will be most successful here due to how busy London is. We are incorporating a time lapse to emphasise the fact that our artist is lonely due to the many people walking quickly around him, this will suggest to the audience that he has lost his way of life as he is standing still whilst others are walking quickly. Furthermore it will help the audience to understand he has runaway and doesn't know what to do therefore they will get a better understanding of the narrative. This will also build a relationship between the artist and the audiences as they will sympathize for him. The time laspe is conventional to to the indie genre as it builds a good relationship between the audience and artist and will make the narrative mroe easier to understansd. The editing style represetns my artists as vulnerable and weak due to the pace of life moving around him which is quick.

The secound editing style we are going to incorporate is slow paced editing. We are going to incorporate slow paced editing through out the music video but mainly within the house setting. We are incorporating slow paced editing in the house setting so that the audience get a clear view that Nico and his father are arguing and are bad terms. By using slow paced editing here the audience will understand why Ed is running away meaning that they will engage more into the music video. The audience will also symphathise for Nico as the slow paced editing will give a clear view of how the bad the house is. We are also going to use slow paced editing when Nico performs part of the song to show his talent in performing which will draw in audiences. Slow paced editing is conventional to the indie genre as it makes visuals within the music video look more realistic. Slow paced editing will also make our artist look vulneralbe as the audience will clearly see the house and the argument between him and his father which will create a tense atmosphere.

The third editing style we are going to incorporate is black and white filters. This is a typical editing style within indie music videos as it shows the audience how the artists within video are feeling at that time. We are going to incorporate a black and white filer in many parts of the music video such as on the train. We are incorporating black and white filters here as the typical lighting on the train is high key which is unconventioal so we are going to add black and white filters to make it more conventional. Furthermore it will also show how he is feeling which is upsept and gloomy as the black and white connoates to depressing emotions. The black and white filters will make the narrative more easier to understand as it will clearly show how Nico's feeling which will build a relationship. The black and white filters is conventional to the indie genre as it shows the artists feelings clearly. The black and white filters will represent my artist as depressed which will help the audience to understand the narrative and how he is feeling.

The target audience will be able to build a reltionship through the editing styles I have selected as they will understand the narrative better as the editing styles emphasise how the artist is feeling. The slow paced editing will clearly show the audience how Ed has been treated in his home which will build a relationship. The time lapse will show the audience that his pace of life has become slow since he has run away which will createe empathy for him but also make the audience interested in the music video as they would want to know what happends to the artist. Lastly the black and white filters will clearly represent how the artist is feeling which is depressed therefore they can relate to him.

Digipak Analysis - Miss Miller

A digipak is a different type of CD packagaing. Digipaks typically consist of a book style paperboard with many plastic trays to hold CDs attached inside. A jewel case CD was the main way of covering CD's however in the recent years Digipaks have become more popular with artists. The main purpose of a Digipak is to promote the artists CD to the audience as their is important information on the digipak such as images and song names. Digpipaks make the CD look more personal than a jewel CD case meaning that audiences are more likely to buy it. The images on the Digipak are more of a high quality than on a jewel CD case meaning that people are more likely to buy an artists album/CD as the digipak will be eye catching. Digipaks helps the artist attract wider audiences as people can perceive each digipak differently and see hidden messages within them. A digipak also includes promotional materials such as posters and booklets. A Digipak and a jewel CD case are different in many ways. Jewel Cd cases are made from plastic meaning that they are harder to break whereas Digipaks are made from cardboard meaning that they can break easily therefore their lifespan may be short. However Digipaks contain much more information then a jewel CD case such as images, lyrics and information about the artists which makes audiences want to buy the CD. A jewel CD case just contains the CD, inside cover and front and back covers therefore consumers are more likely to buy a Digipak as its more eye catching.

I will be analysing Jack Johnsons Digipak as his songs are in the indie genre and I could not find a Ed Sheeran Digipak. There is only 4 parts to it but for my artist we will create a 6 sided digipak.

Artist representation
From this digipak Jack Johnson is represented as music oriented as they aren't many photos of him on his album cover. This shows that hes not self centered and cares more about his music then what audiences perceive him as. By having less images of him makes the audience perceive the artist as unique and diverse as many artists images on their digipak is of themselves rather than other objects. By not having as many images of himself on the digipak shows that he is not constructed as a star which is conventional to the indie genre. He is also represented as an artist interested in nature due to the images of tree and wildlife on the front and back cover and disk of his digipak. This catches audiences attention as its unique and different meaning that they are more likely to buy the digipak. Its also conventional to the indie genre as the images of 'trees' makes the digipak look realistic and forests are typical places for indie songs to be set in. Also the image of him holding a guitar on the inside cover indicates to the audience straight away what genre of music he sings. It emhasises the fact that he is music oriented and shown as his own type of artist.

Images
On the front cover of the digipak the image is of Jack Johnson as a silhouette. The image of him is very small compared to the image of the tree next to him which again emphasizes the fact that he doesn't want the audience to focus on him but only his music. The silhouette is an unique image to be on Digipaks which catches audiences attention and promotes the artist to be very interesting. The silhouette image also makes the digipak seem mysterical and different, it also says a lot about Jack Johnson as it suggests that he doesn't want the audience to see his full identity. As a result audiences would want to buy the digipak to understand more about him. On the inside cover, the silhouette image of him is him picking a fruit off the tree, this may suggest to audiences on what he sings and writes about or could be percieved as him being a typical artist which audiences can relate to easily. The audience can interpret the image on the front cover in many ways which makes the digipak stand out and creates a wider target audience for Jack Johnson. The image on the front cover also highlights he's involved with nature.
On the inside cover of the Digipak the image is of Jack Johnson holding his guitar which provides the audience of what type of music he performs which represents the indie genre. It also shows he is music oriented and wants to audience to see he loves making music. It shows his talented in playing the guitar which is conventional to the indie genre. The fact that the guitar is covering his face suggests he doesn't want audiences to focus on him but his music which promotes him as a good artist.
The other part of the inside cover of the digipak is a black silhouette image of a plant emphasizing the theme of nature. Indicating that his album may be about nature or he is interested in nature. The images of the leaves and the trees makes the audience want to understand him better as they can be interpreted in many different ways therefore they are likely to buy the digipak. On the back cover of the digipak there is again a symbol of nature a tree trunk which again relates to the theme of nature. From the images on the digipak the audience will be understand that his album may be about wildlife or he is interested in wildlife.

Colours
The main colours on the digipak are yellow, black and white. The colour yellow makes the digipak very eye catching and catches the audiences attention. Its also very diverse and unique which makes the audience want to buy the digipak. It connotes to the idea of joy and happiness. The colour yellow suggests to the audience that he's sings about uplifting and happy songs which make the audience want to buy the digipak. The colour black contrasts with the yellow meaning that his name and the lyrics stand out suggesting to the audience that he is a powerful artists and wants his songs to be noticed rather then his image of himself. The yellow and black makes the digipak appealing but also different as they are odd colours showing the audience that he is an interesting artist. The colour white connotes to innocence and purity, its also a plain colour so that the digipak stands out. On the CD cover the only image on there is a leaf which connotes to the fact that he is nature oriented or the CD is about nature. It also shows he's not a typical star as there is no main image of him anywhere on the digipak promoting him as a powerful artist as he just cares about how the audience perceive his music not his image. The colour scheme is successful in catching the audiences attention due to the contrasting colours used.

Layout/Design
On the front cover the layout is quite simple. The main image is in the middle of the cover with information around the outside of the image. This suggests to the audience that he wants them to focus on the image rather then the information as the image reflects on him as a person. In the right hand corner we have Jack Johnson's name which catches the audiences attention straight away as they can see clearly who's Digipak it is. There's also special edition at the right hand bottom corner which attracts readers eye. Its on the front cover rather than on the back or inside as 'special edition' catches audiences attention. On the back cover of the digipak the column layout allows the audience to concentrate on each song title one by one suggesting that Jack Johnson wants to promote his songs well. On the inside cover the fact that its split into two sides is very interesting, it may suggest that Jack Johnson has two sides to him which makes the audience want to find out more about him. The layout shows audiences that he performs songs which are in the indie genre due to the guitar as this is conventional but it also shows that he is nature oriented due to the image of the leaf. On the CD itself the image is covering mainly the CD disk where as the writing which is name is small in the right hand corner. This suggests that he's not self centered as the image is bigger then then his name but wants the audience to understand the concept of the images being used.

Typography
The style of the font on the digipak is plain and realistic which is typical for indie artists to have on their digipak. Its normal font which is clear to the audiences and doesn't distract audiences attention from the images and song titles. Using a plain font shows that he wants the audience to interpret him and his music. The color of the typography goes with the color scheme of yellow, black and white. Therefore the typography makes the digipak visually appealing. Also the font of 'Jack Johnsons' name is still a plain font showing he's not self centered which is typical for a indie artist.

Style of language
The main text that is used on the digipak is the artists name 'Jack Johnson' and his song titles. Therefore showing audiences vital information of who the artist is and what is included in the album. The language that is used is very simple and clear so that the audience are aware of the information when looking at the digipak. It also has other information such as bonus tracks on the album. As a result of the simple language audiences will be more engaged when reading the digipak therefore more likely to buy it. The simple language relates to the indie genre as indie music videos are quite simple and realistic meaning that audiences may be able to understand straight away what genre the CD is in.

Connotations
There are many connotations within this digipak. The colour scheme which is black, white and yellow connotes to purity and happiness which may relate to the artist or the album. It may give an idea of what type of songs are on the CD therefore audiences may feel like they have to buy it. The theme of nature may connote to that hes a typical boy which is conventional in the indie genre, it also builds a relationship between the audience and the artist. Due to the inside cover being split, it may suggest theres two sides to him which is the nature side and the musical side of him which intrigues audiences to understand him more. Due to that there's a silhouette image of him on the front cover suggests that he doesn't want his identity to be discovered which suggests he is mystical.

This is the inside cover of Jack Johnsons digipak, the colour scheme of the inside of the digipak is the same as the the outside by using the colours yellow, this makes the digipak visually appealing. The images that have been used are very indie as many of the images are of people playing instruments, the connotation of this may mean that these were the people that helped him create the album. The layout/desgin is simple yet appealing as there is a collage of images with writing in the next column, this adds a personal effect and shows to the audience that Jack Johnson is a typical boy which will build a relationship between the two. The typography is simple which is conventional to the indie genre.

Overall the design of the digipak is very simple which is conventional to the indie genre. The theme of nature is very interesting and realistic which is also conventional to the indie genre. The image of Jack Johnson holding the guitar is relatable to the indie genre as its the main instrument used in indie songs. However the coloring subverts the indie genre as its not typical colours which are used as they are normally more dull. The digipak is also more personal then a jewel CD case as it makes the audience feel important and as if the digipak is made for them through the use of images and information.

From researching into digipaks I now understand how to make one myself and how to make it conventional to the indie genre. My research will assist me when planning and creating my own digipak for my artist as I understand the conventions of the indie genre now which are subtle colours, simple font, simple layout/desgin and edgy image. It has also taught me what needs to be included within a digipak which will significantly help me when I come to create my own digipak. I will try to make my digipak as conventional as I can to the indie genre.

Planning artist image - Miss Georgiou

An artists image is very important within a music video as its how the audience will perceive the artist which will build a relationship. The artists image through their appearance also represents how he/she is feeling which the audience will be able to relate too. The artists image also shows what genre of music the music video is. It also give suggestions to the audience what may happen or has happened within the music video. Therefore the artists image is very important.

As a group we are planning to make our artists image as conventional to the indie genre as we can. We are planning to make the artists to appear scruffy, dirty and untidy so that his appearance links with the narrative.  The costume our artist will wear is scruffy jeans, jumper and broken shoes but still looking like a typical boy so that the audience can relate to him. This is very conventional to the indie genre and the audience will be able to relate to him easily as well as seeing he has been neglected therefore they will understand the narrative better. We are  having a costume change through out the video as it would make sense to have one with our narrative to show that the boy has travelled far.  Also by having a costume change will engage the audience more into the video as it makes the music video more interesting. We are having the costume change within London to show he has travelled far but to also to interest the audience. The artist will be represented as a typical boy so that the audience will engage with him. We are representing him as a typical boy as this is conventional to the indie genre but also makes him relateable.  It will also show he not a constructed star which will interest the audience into watching the video also and create a good reputation of the artist. The clothing will be very plain and simple so that the audience know straight away what genre of music the video is which will attract and engage our target audience. Also by wearing simple clothing makes him very relateable to the audience which will build a relationship between the two.

His scruffy hair which show the audience that he has been neglected which will help them understand the narrative better.Further more the plain clothing will allow the audience to focus on the narrative more rather then the boy therefore meaning they will understand the narrative better which will make the music video more successful. The scruffy clothing will also emphasize that he has been neglected therefore helping the audience to understand the narrative better. The plain clothing will help the audience to understand the character better therefore they are more likely to carry on watching the video. The artist will also be wearing a hat which is not conventional to the indie genre but to make the artists image unique and diverse which will catch audiences eyes. It will also make him look like a typical boy which audience will be able to relate to. We will have no make up on our artist as he is a boy but we may put dark circles round his eyes to show he has been hurt and is lonely so that it links to our narrative.

His image will be the same throughout the whole of the music video so that the audience can see that the music video is typical of the indie genre as he is seen as a plain typical boy. We are also keeping the image the same so that our narrative makes sense to the audience therefore they will understand our music video better. Furthermore we are keeping his image the same so that the audience can definitely seen he has been neglected.

Overall our artists image is conventional to the indie genre as he will be wearing plain, relateable clothing and have scruffy hair therefore looking like a typical boy. His appearance will help the audience to understand that he is vulnerable which will build a relationship. His image will help the audience to understand the narrative better by showing that he is depressed and lonely.

The target audience can build a relationship with my artist through the image as he looks like a typical boy which the audience can easily relate to. They will be able to understand his feelings better as he is wearing typical clothing therefore understanding the narrative better.
