Group magazine advert- Miss Miller

As a group we looked at each others magazine adverts to see what magazine advert was the most successful so that we could use one for our group magazine advert. We looked at each others magazine adverts identifying what was successful about each others magazine adverts and come to a decision to use Amber's magazine advert as we believed it was the most realistic and also most conventional to the indie genre. We then we worked together on Amber's magazine advert incorporating different ideas and how we could make it more successful. We developed her magazine into a more successful advert.

Individuals magazine adverts
This is Blessings individual magazine advert. Its a very simple, plain advert but very effective. Its also conventional to the indie genre. I believe its an effective advert as it looks very real. I also believe the green colour of the text will draw audiences in due to the contrast in colours. It also has a lot of information on it so that it looks more personal. However the black text is quite hard to read as you cant see it from the background image.
We incorporated the image on our group magazine advert she used as we believed it was very successful. Its edgy and different which we believed it will promote to the audience that the advert is in the indie genre. It also promotes Nico off well. We also incorporated the itunes symbol on our group magazine advert as we believed it made the magazine advert more realistic and effective.

Domenicos advert
This is Domenico's advert, we believed that the main strength on this advert was the typography as its conventional to the indie genre and the king image as it clearly promotes to the audience the album name 'king' However the weakness with this magazine advert as there isn't enough information on the advert meaning that is doesn't promote our artist effectively and audiences wouldn't know about important information and what the advert is promoting. The colour scheme is also ineffective, the colours yellow and green don't go together therefore audience wont be drawn in as its not visually appealing.
The one thing we incorporated from Dominicos magazine advert to our group advert was
Domenicos layout of 'Nico Johnson' He placed the name quite at the top in bold in which we wanted to do for our final advert so that it promotes to the audience well.

This is Ambers magazine advert. We believed it was the most successful advert out of the four as it was the most realistic and conventional to the indie genre. We liked the use of the colour red as the information stood out from the page which will draw audiences in. We also like the information at the bottom of the page as it informed audiences about the artist extremely way. However the weakness with this advert was the typography of 'nico johnson' we didnt feel it was bold enough which wont promote to the audience his name well enough. We also thought the layout was to complicated which isnt conventional to the indie genre.
We used this advert for our group advert and made small changes to it.

Group magazine advert

We didnt change much to Ambers advert as we thought it was already very successful and effective. The colour sheme of grey, white and red/pink was kept the same as we all believed these colours worked well together and made the magazine advert visually appealing therefore it will draw audiences in. The grey colouring is conventional to the indie genre it also connotes to how the artist is feeling, however the red colour subverts the genre meaning that a wider audience will be attracted to our advert. The pink colour also makes it more visually appealing and less dull meaning it will draw in more audiences.

As a group we decided to use the same images in ambers magazine advert for our group advert. We used the same images as we believed the images used were very successful as they were conventional to the indie genre and promoted the artist well therefore there was no change needed to be made. The mixture of images are all relatable to the audience as they are all realistic and conventional to the indie genre therefore it will build a relatioship between the two. It also made the magazine advert more interesting to look at therefore drawing audiences in.

The layout/design we slightly changed for our group magazine advert. We changed the postioning of the text, we made the writing bigger and moved it to the top of the page so that it was more bolder and would stand out more to the audience and make more space on the advert. By changing the text to the top of the page makes the artist seem stronger as it stands out more to the audience. We moved the website to the bottom-right hand corner and made it smaller so that it made our advert more spacious and make more attention to other pieces of information such as 'featuring hit single' which is key piece of information.

The main change was the typography of 'Nico Johnson' as we thought the font was too plain. The font was taken from my magazine advert as it was more of a bold font so that Nico will be promoted more and stand out. It also made the advert look better.

We also added '#1 Album' to our group magazine advert. We done this so that it evened out the layout of our magazine advert and took up some room on our advert so that it looked more visually appealing. We also done it so that it promoted the artist better to the audience and made him look more of a strong indie artist.

In my opinion I believe that my advert conforms to the indie genre due to the grey colour and realistic relateable images used and also the simple layout however I believe our advert subverts to the indie genre due to the red/pink colour used as its a bright colour although this makes our advert more visually appealing and draws audiences in. It also links in with the image of the 'tattoo' I believe that it appeals to our target audience as its visually appealing and the realistic images used makes it relateable and the audience will be able to build a relationship with the audience and the artist.
I found working as a group to create a group magazine advert quite useful as we all put imputed many different ideas for our group advert and by creating an individual advert first we all had many successful ideas to add to our group advert making it more effective.

Individual Digipak- Miss Miller

I have created an individual digipak so that when we come to create a group digipak we have many different ideas to look at and incorporate into our group digipak. By creating individual digipaks we willl be able to create a successful group digipak as we can see what ideas work and what doesn't.

Front cover
On the front cover I have decided to use contrasting colour's. The image on the front cover is quite a dark image as it was taken at night time and i've used a white colour for the text. I've done this so that the text stands out to the audience therefore it can be easily read. The contrasting colours also makes the front cover of the digipak visually appealing which is very important as its the first side of the digipak audiences see therefore it has to draw their attention. The colours are also quite simple colours, ive chosen simple colours as its conventional to the indie genre which means audiences can see straight away what type of music the artist sings. The image I have used on the front cover is a close up of Nico Johnson, I've chosen this image as the close up will build a relationship between the audience and the artist as the audience will be able to see that he is looking directly at them making the digipak feel more personal. The close up will also promote the artist as the audience can clearly see who the artist is therefore he will be recognizeable. I also chose this image as its visually appealing due to the lights in the background which shows the audience he is in a City which will draw them in. The close up shows the artists clothing and appearance which is scruffy hair and plain simple clothing which is typical to the indie genre therefore our target audience will be able to relate to him easily. Overall the image on the front of the digipak is conventional to the indie genre as it promote him as an indie artist due to the setting and appearance. The layout/design of the front cover is quite simple, I chose the image to be in the middle and text around the image so that our artist isnt covered so that he is promoted well. The layout is conventional to the indie genre as its simple and plain. There isnt much language used on the front cover however its simple easy language so that its understandable too all audiences which will create a larger fan base. The typography is also simple but bold which suggests that the artist is strong which will create relationship between the audience and the artist. Ive chosen to use simple typography so that it can be easily read and understood but ive also chosen to use simple typography as its conventional to the indie genre.

Back cover
Again the colours ive used on the back cover are contrasting simple colours. The text is white whereas the image is black and white. Again I've done this so that the text stands out from the image and can be easily read. Therefore the audience will be able to read the digipak clearly The image I have used on the back cover is very edgy and interesting which is why I chose it. Its also conventional to the indie genre as its diverse and unique. The image is also visually appealing which will draw in audiences and catch their attention. The image also promotes the artist as a strong indie artist as the image is a long shot of the artist which shows the audience his clothing and appearance which is scruffy hair and simple plain clothing. Within the image the audience can also see the guitar which promotes him as a strong indie artist. For the back cover I've chosen for the layout/design to be simple, Ive put the song lyrics on the right of the image so that it doesn't cover the artist therefore the image will promote him well. Ive put the song titles in the middle but on the right hand side so that the back cover is visually appealling and the song titles can be seen clearly. The typography is the same as the front cover simple plain but bold. Ive chosen to use simple font so that is can be read clearly. The simple font is also conventional to the indie genre as its plain and bold. The language i've used is very simple so that it can be understood by all audiences.

CD
On the CD again I have used simple colours. The text again is white so that it stands out to the audience and can be easily read. Ive chosen the colour white as its a simple and plain colour which is conventional to the indie genre. The image I have chosen is a mid-shot of Nico on the train looking away into the carriage. Ive chosen this image as it makes links to the song 'runaway' as it looks like he is running away. I also chose this image as the audience will be able to relate to him easily due to the realistic setting the image is set in (The train station) The image is very conventional to the indie genre as its very realistic and simple which shows the audience that our artist is an indie artist. The layout/design of the CD is again simple, I've chosen to have the layout/design simple as its conventional to the indie genre but also so that its clear to the audience whom the digipak is promoting. The typography is the same font as the other fonts on the digipak which is simple and plain, ive decided to use a simple plain font all round the digipak as it makes the digipak visually appealing but simple font is also conventional to the indie genre. The simple font also helps the audience to understand the text better as it is clear. The language again is simple on the CD so that audiences can understand it and i've also chosen to use simple language as its conventional to the indie genre therefore audience will be able to relate to the artist.

Inside Covers- Lyrics - Thank you note- image of Nico
The colours I have used on the inside covers are simple colours on each side. I have used simple colours on each side so its visually appealing. On the lyrics side ive used a pinkish colour for the font as it links with the image of the tattoo which will make the inside cover of the digipak visually appealing and attract audiences. The other colours for the font on the other sides is white as its a simple plain colour and links with the other colours on my digipak therefore making the digipak visually appealing. On the lyrics side ive chosen to use quite an interesting image of a street in London with a 'tattoist' sign above one of the shops. Ive decided to use this image as the audience will be able to relate to the artist as its an realistic image due to the setting. On the Thank you note ive chosen an image of Nico in the city by cars ive chosen this image as it connotes to his life moving fast due to his fans because of the fast cars in the image. I also chose this image as its a realistic image therefore audiences will be able to relate to him easier. On the third inside cover, Ive chosen a long shot image of Nico sitting on a wall in London. Ive chosen this image as its a very interesting photo and is conventional to the indie genre. The audience will be able to relate to him easily due to the location and his appearance which is scruffy hair and simple clothing. The typography on each inside cover is the same font which is simple and plain. Ive chosen the same font for all the inside covers so that its visually appealing. Ive also chosen a plain simple font as its conventional to the indie genre and will be easier to understand to the audience. Ive used simple language especially on the Thank you note side. I used the word 'guys' as its relateable language.

The main tool I struggled with on photoshop was the lasso tool which is the tool to cut out images. I found cutting out the crown quite difficult as its an hard shape to cut out. When I cut out the shape it kept coming out quite rough and the sides were pix-elated. However I overcame this by practising a few times and using the blur tool after to blur the sides down to make them less pi-elated. Another tool I found difficult to use was the crop tool, I kept cropping out the wrong images and it kept coming out pix-elated again but I overcame this again by practising a few times. I used the text tool quite well on photoshop as it's quite an simple tool to use, It was very easy to pick out a font and type the text into the box and also drag the text where you'd want it.

I believe my digipak appeals to my target audience as its very conventional to the indie genre therefore will attract my target audience. It will interest my target audience as the simple font, interesting images and images of the artist are all conventional to the indie genre. My digipak will assist with my groups digipak as it will give my group many different ideas which we can include into our group digipak.

Individual magazine advert- Miss Miller

I have created a magazine advert to form many different ideas so that when we come to create our group magazine advert we will have many different ideas to work from. By creating a magazine advert individually will help our group create a successful group magazine advert as we will have many different ideas and features on each magazine advert that we will be able to incorporate on our group magazine advert.

The colours I have chosen are very conventional to the indie genre. I have chosen conventional colours so that audiences see clearly which genre of music my artist sings which will attract my target audience. The colours I have chosen to use for the text is a white colour with a pencil type effect which makes the magazine advert look personal and done by the artist himself which will build a relationship between the audience and the artist. The colours are also plain and simple which is conventional to the indie genre. The pencil font also makes the magazine advert look more realistic which is conventional to the indie genre. I've made the colour of the image black and white as this is also conventional to the indie genre, the black and white colouring will stand out to the audience and show clearly that the advert is promoting a song of the indie genre. The black and white colours connotes to sad and upset feelings therefore indicating to the audience what the album could be about which will make them buy the album. The black and white colouring will also build a relationship with the audience and the artist as they will sympathise for him as the colours promote his depressed mood.

3) Make sure you explain how elements used are conventional or not of the genre
Ive decided to create my magazine advert with a simple layout so that the image and text can be easily seen and read therefore the audience will understand the advert easily. I have also chosen to use a simple layout as its conventional to the indie genre. I've chosen to use the artists name 'Nico Johnson' right at the top of the advert as this clearly shows what the advert is promoting and promotes the artist as a strong influential artist as the text is right at the top of the advert. Ive chosen to make the image cover all of the advert as this makes the advert look appealing which will draw audiences in. The other text such as 'featuring hit single runaway' is at the bottom so that it doesn't cover the image of the artist so that it doesn't prevent the audience from understand the artists image. I've also put the other text 'new album king out now' at the side so that it still doesn't block the image of the artist.

I've used the image on my magazine advert as I believe its very conventional to the indie genre. The image is in black and white, the image is of the artist leaning against a wall with edgy diverse images on it. The background image is very conventional to the indie genre as its very unique and different. As the image is very quirky and different which makes the magazine advert visually appealing which will attract many audiences. The image also shows the audience clearly what genre of music the artist sings therefore attracting our target audience. I've also chosen this image as its very edgy and unique which will draw many audiences attention. The image of the artist is slightly covered by the text, I've done this so that it leaves the audience in mystery of the artist so that they would want to understand him more. However you do see his clothing which is casual therefore showing that he's an indie artist which will the audience will be able to relate to therefore building a relationship. I've chosen this image of the artist as the artist as he looks very laidback which gives off a good reputation of him and also the audience will be able to relate to him easily. From the image the audience will want to find out more about the artist therefore more likely to buy the album.

The typography i've used is very bold simple font. I've chosen to use this style of font as its conventional to the indie genre as its very simple and plain. The font is also the same style through out as I wanted my advert to be visually appealing to my target audience and stand out. Ive used a bold font so that the text is clear to the audience so that they understand the information clearly. By using a bold font connotes to my artist as being a strong artist which gives off a good reputation of him therefore audiences are more likely to buy the album. The style of language is also simple as its conventional to the indie genre but so that the magazine advert is clear to understand. Ive chosen simple language so that its easier to understand and read which will make the magazine advert more appealing.

I have followed all conventions of the indie genre such as black and white colouring, bold font, a simple layout, simple language and an edgy diverse image when creating this magazine advert as I wanted the advert to clearly promote my artist as a strong indie artist.

When using photoshop to create my magazine advert I found a few features that I struggled with. The main thing I found difficult was adding different fonts from the internet to my magazine advert. I could find any websites which allowed me to download fonts. I overcame this by using fonts that are already on photo shop. I also found difficult cutting out images using the lasso tool as the image kept coming out rough, however I came over this by practicing a few times.
I found editing my text quite simple as I already had experience with using the tools. I also found using the text tool quite simple as it is easy to use because all you had to to is create a box and type information inside the box. I believe my strengths helped me create a successful magazine advert as I could use the main tools quite easily which helped create my magazine advert smoothly.

I believe my magazine advert conforms to indie conventions the colour scheme, layout and text is all quite plain and simple. I think my magazine advert appeals to my target audience (13-25) as the image is quite interesting and edgy which will clearly show them that the magazine advert is off the indie genre. Also my magazine advert appeals to my target audience as its a very simple yet effective magazine advert cover and will be drawn in by the edgy image. The font will also appeal to them as its bold yet simple which makes the cover look effective.

The layout is also simple which will make it easier to read which will draw their attention also. I believe creating an individual magazine will help to create a successful group magazine advert as we can look at all our individual adverts and incorporate many different ideas and features. We will be able to see clearly what worked and what doesn't when analyzing our individual magazine adverts therefore our group magazine advert is more likely to be successful.
